A Division Order is a contract that confirms your ownership interest in a well and authorizes the distribution of revenue, while a Form W-9 is a tax form used to report your correct taxpayer identification number (TIN) to the entity paying you, such as the well operator. You typically receive both when a well starts producing or when there's a change in ownership, and returning the completed W-9 form is crucial to avoid unnecessary tax withholding.

What to do with each form

  • Division Order

This document details your ownership, interest decimal, and payment information. After carefully reviewing it to ensure all information is correct, you will sign and return a copy to the operator by uploading a photograph of the signed document using this app or a signed pdf.

  • Form W-9

You will complete the W-9 form by providing your name and taxpayer identification number (TIN), which can be a Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN). You must upload a photograph of the completed form, or a completed pdf of the form, using this app.
